| DATA BASE DESCRIPTION (EDMED Part B) |
*DATASET-NAME: XBT data collected within SINAPSI-3 '99 Scientific cruise in the Northern Ionian Sea.
*TIME-PERIOD: 1998, December, 28 to 1999, Jannuary, 18 .
*GEOGRAPHIC-COVERAGE: Low resolution XBT vertical profiles were collected between CTD data to increase the spatial sampling resolution (data set limits: South: 34°N; North: 39°N; West: 15°E; East: 23°E)
*PROJECT: SINAPSI (Seasonal, Interannual and decAdal variability of the atmosPhere, oceanS and related marIne ecosystems) Project in the Mediterranean Sea.
*PARAMETERS: Temperature with expendable sensors.
*INSTRUMENTS: XBT Expendable Bathythermograph.
*SUMMARY: XBT data were visually inspected to eliminate spikes and then averaged over 1 dbar pressure intervals. At every XBT launching location the SST has been measured by an ordinary mercury-in-glass thermometer.
