*DATASET-NAME: National tide gauge network - Rete Mareografica Nazionale

*TIME-PERIOD: From 1973 on-going.

*GEOGRAPHIC-COVERAGE: The national tide gauge network is formed by 26 new stations uniformly distributed along the Italian coast and located at: Trieste, Venice Lido, Ancona, Ravenna, Pescara, Ortona, Tremiti Islands,  Vieste, Bari, Otranto, Taranto, Crotone, Reggio Calabria, Messina, Catania, Porto Empedocle, Lampedusa, Palermo, Palinuro, Salerno, Naple,s Cagliari, Carloforte, Porto Torres, Civitavecchia, Leghorn, Genoa and Imperia.

*PROJECT: RMN (Rete Mareografica Nazionale)

*PARAMETERS: Sea level, wind speed and direction, air and water temperature, atmospheric pressure.

*INSTRUMENTS: Automatic Wheather Station SIAP Mod. SM3840 with eletronic ultrasound device (tide gauge sensor), eletro-optical trasducer (anemometric sensor), a Pt100 resistance element (air and water temperature), atmpspheric pressure sensor.

*SUMMARY: The data were and are currently collected for the monitoring of the physical characteristics of Italian seas, assess and forecast the coastal marine environmental.
The experimental activity is based on Automatic Wheather Station SM3840. All sensors adopted are fully compliant with the WMO recommendations.
The data are sent in real-time or automatically collected by the Front End at scheduled intervals, through commuted telephone line and/or GSM. Data received from the stations are validated by comparison with thresholds.
