*DESCRIPTION: The Agency for Environmental Protection and Technical Services (APAT), established by art. 38 of Leg. Decree n. 300 of 30.7.1999, carries out scientific and technical activities in the national interest to protect the environment, water resources and the soil. APAT operates on the basis of a three-year programme, annually updated, that sets objectives, priorities and resources, in implementation of the directives of the Ministry of the Environment and Territorial Protection. APAT is organised into six Departments (Soil Protection, Inland and Marine Waters Protection, State of the Environment and Environmental Metrology, Nuclear Technological and Industrial Risk, Nature Protection, Information Activities) and six Interdepartmental Services (Legal Affairs, Environmental Emergency, Orientation Coordination and Monitoring of Inspection Activities, Activity Administration and Planning, Environmental Certification, Environmental Information).
