OBJECTIVES OF THE WORKSHOP

Review the results of the MEDAR/MEDATLAS project;
Increase awareness of the project products & of their usefulness for scientific & technical purposes;
Identify ways for fostering operational networked data management system;
Prepare recommendations for further improvement of the Mediterranean & Black Seas data management system.

WHAT DOES THE WORKSHOP OFFER

Plenary Sessions with key talks by leading scientists open to all who desire to know more about the Mediterranean and the MEDAR/MEDATLAS project and links with related Global projects;
MEDAR/MEDATLAS network and database, strong and weak points;
Results of climatological analysis;
Scientific data products, software and websites of interest to the community;
Needs and perspectives for data products and data management structures from the point of view of major international projects like GODAR, GTSPP, WOCE, MFS;
Presentation of a new data management project proposal for the Mediterranean and Black Seas;
Poster Sessions on national and thematic data management activity;
Training Sessions to become acquainted with MEDAR/MEDATLAS products and their usage;
Round table discussions to share experiences and ideas, and prepare recommendations to improve the data exchange and continuous updating of the MEDAR/MEDATLAS database;
Social Events.

WHAT WILL BE THE WORKSHOP PRODUCTS?

A workshop report together with the work-plan for future activities, conclusions and recommendations.
Volume of the proceedings including poster presentations if transmitted in electronic form (power point).

PREPARE YOUR POSTER AND LECTURE

Papers are invited on the topics indicated and falling within the scope of the Workshop.
Poster presentations on national and thematic data management activity are recommended.
Abstracts clearly stating the purpose, results and conclusion of the work to be described in the final paper will be collected and printed in a book of abstracts.
The book will be distributed in the conference kit.
Dead line to send your abstract of paper and poster presentation is November 1, 2001.
